Why We Created Piano Wizard

Chris Salter, the creator of Piano Wizard, began a journey with a decision as a young adult that he would do whatever it took to learn to play the piano. Unfortunately, it appeared that he had no talent for it. Instructor after instructor, including his college music professors, told Salter to forget it. He refused. He was determined to master the piano.

For his Master's Thesis, Chris traveled to "third world" countries to study how other cultures train children to play music. What he found planted the seed for Piano Wizard. Other cultures, like the Brazilians, for example, teach children music visually, not with rote practice as we do. Chris learned that playing music is simply hitting the right note at the right time. EVERYONE in Brazil learns to play some type of music. No one there is judged to be "musically handicapped." Come to find out, it's only in "Advanced" cultures like ours that anyone is told they have no gift for music.

Armed with this new information and determined to prove that ALL people can learn music, Chris set out to create a computer game that can teach ANYONE to learn to "hit the right note at the right time" AND learn to read the hieroglyphics of modern musical notation. Chris Salter's goal is universal music literacy. He believes it is our God-given capacity to learn to play beautiful music. Piano Wizard was the result.
