In the ninth video of our Elements Of Music series, Chris provides an introduction to the modes in the major scale.
Small "variations" is a scale produce different "modes" e.g. Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, etc. Different modes will give a different feel to a melody.

This lesson is a basic overview of the harmonic system demonstrated on the piano. The concepts arise from conventional music theory.

It is important to understand that while this is all very nice to know, it isĀ  NOT essential, or even primary in the journey to learn how to play piano.
