A Few Tricks to Help You Practice the Piano
There are a few tricks you can use that will help you practice the piano better. These will not only save you time when you are learning, but they will also save you a lot of frustration. By using these ideas, you can learn how to play the piano faster and easier. Try them out for yourself and see how well they work.
You should only practice the piano when you have the mindset to do it. If you find that you are sitting down at the piano and everything is going blank, walk around a little and then come back to it. While you are walking, think pleasant musical thoughts and visualize yourself at the piano playing a masterpiece. If it doesn't work, then sit down and start practicing and see if your mindset improves. If it doesn't, don't give in to frustration. Walk away from it for the time being and come back at another time when you are more able to set your mind to practicing.
When you are able to play simple music pieces you will often find that there is a certain part in the piece that trips you up. No matter how many times you seem to play that song you always make a mistake at the same part of it. At that point, you may be tempted to stop playing and start again right from the beginning. You would then start playing the song until making the mistake again, and then start over. This is not the best way to be practicing your songs.
A better way to do this is to isolate the area where you are having a problem. This may be a few short notes or an entire segment. Once you have isolated the part, practice it until you have it mastered, then go back to the beginning of the song and start over. When you are playing the troublesome part over and over again start slowly until you get it right, and then practice speeding it up. Nine times out of ten you will discover that you no longer make the same mistake and can go further into the piece. What you are doing is conditioning your hands to play that certain part without having to think about it.
You can work through all of the areas you have trouble with it this way until your song is played perfectly and almost automatically. When you get your music onto automatic pilot, you can then move onto the next step, which is putting emotion and feeling into the song. This is the right way to practice the piano and this is how you learn to play music passionately.
