I think of music literacy like I think of basic literacy. At the turn of the 19th century, the vast majority of people could not read or write, yet the universal education acts changed that in a generation, and now we consider that to be "normal'. Look what riches and wealth that widespread but basic knowledge has created in the last century, and look where it is lacking in the world and how it has hindered.
I think universal music literacy could have a similar effect, not as practical, but spiritual, social, joyful. What if we were all just merely competent and comfortable musicians, and could make music together at any social gathering, with anyone, with most any kind of music? On a purely vibrational plane, the world of human interaction would take a decidedly softer, gentler, more collaborative tone. Make music, not war is my motto.
What do you all think? Is it possible? Would it matter?
