Jan here. For those of you who think you're too old to learn a musical instrument, you're due for some major rethinking. Listen to what The American Music Conference reported regarding studies of seniors involved in music-making:
- Music-making activates the cerebellum and may help stroke victims regain language capabilities.
- Studies show improvements in the brain chemistry of people suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
- Older Americans who are actively involved in music making show improvements in anxiety, loneliness, and depression -- three factors that are critical in coping with stress, stimulating the immune system, and improving health.
This proves that it's never too early or too late to bring music into your life.
Have you thought about picking up a new instrument? Or maybe you already have...what has been your experience thus far?
Thank you!
